Usage and Care
Cymbal Care: Maintaining Your Mosico Cymbals
Mounting
Proper mounting is crucial for both the sound and longevity of your cymbals. Always use a felt washer or sleeve both above and below the cymbal. These felts prevent metal-on-metal contact, which can cause keyholing (wear around the mounting hole) and cracks. Ensure the wingnut is only finger-tight; a cymbal needs to be able to swing and vibrate freely to produce its full, musical sound.
Playing Style
While our cymbals are built to be durable, your playing technique affects their lifespan. Avoid striking the cymbal’s edge directly with the tip of your stick, as this can lead to cracks. Instead, strike the bow or edge with the shoulder of your stick at a slight angle. This technique allows the cymbal to absorb the energy of the hit more efficiently, resulting in a fuller sound and less stress on the metal.
Setup & Transport
When setting up your cymbals, make sure they are not too close to each other or to your drums. This prevents accidental contact that can cause nicks and cracks. For transport, always use a high-quality cymbal bag or hard case. A good bag keeps your cymbals from rubbing against each other, which prevents scratches and protects them from dings and dents.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning is important, but a cymbal’s natural patina and fingerprints are part of its character. For a simple clean, wipe down your cymbals with a soft, dry cloth after playing to remove fingerprints and dust. For a deeper clean, you can use a dedicated cymbal cleaner designed for your cymbal’s finish.
Cleaning with the Paiste Cymbal Cleaner & Protector
For a professional-grade clean, we recommend the Mosico Cymbal Cleaner & Protector. This product is formulated to restore the brilliant shine of your cymbals without damaging the finish. Apply a small amount to a soft cloth, rub the entire surface of the cymbal in a circular motion, and then wipe it clean with a fresh cloth. The cleaner not only restores shine but also provides a protective layer against future smudges and fingerprints.
Cleaning Color Coated Cymbals
For our color-coated cymbals, use only a soft, dry cloth. Never use any chemical cleaners or polishes on a coated finish, as they can strip away the color and damage the coating. A simple wipe-down is all that’s needed to maintain their vibrant appearance.
